The blue monkshood can attract anyone's attention because of its beauty, but it is also the most poisonous flower in Europe and in fact can be found in many areas of Andorra. Its toxicity is so high that 1 mg is capable of killing a child or a weak adult and, on healthy people, a dose of 5 mg can lead to death one or two hours after.
The most toxic parts of this flower are the leaves and roots, where most of the poison accumulates. It begins to bloom in July and we can find it in all its splendor until the first weeks of September, approximately. On top of that, it should be noted that there is also a yellow variety, which has slightly smaller flowers, but with the same ear and the same toxic strengh.
Currently there is no antidote against the type of poison possessed by aconite, aconitine and pseudoaconitine, which produce cardiotoxic and neurotoxic effects. The effects of poisoning appear about thirty minutes after the ingestion and cause itching on the tongue, excessive salivation and tingling on the face, arms and legs. On top of that, it can cause vomiting, diarrhea, weakness on the bones, difficulty breathing, vision problems and, subsequently, collapse of the nervous and respiratory system.
