During the first years of operation, the funicular was the fastest way to access Engolasters and control the forced pipe. It circulated actually nearby the later and exceeded slopes of up to 78%. Eventually, it was decided to build the road that currently gives access to the lake. This fact caused that the funicular had less and less use and in it 1999 ended up being dismantled.
CURIOSITY: To communicate between the wagon and the engine room of the funicular the guards used a specific code. The one in the wagon used a pole with a conductive tip that made contact with an electric cable along the pipe and this made a bell ring in the engine room. The code was simple. One touch: stop, two touches: go up, three touches: go down and four touches: speed change.
