Lake Engolasters, natural beauty and charm just minutes from the capital

The Engolasters Lake, located in the parish of Escaldes-Engordany , is one of the most visited walks in the principality thanks to its natural environment of great beauty, just a few minutes from the urban and commercial center of Andorra la Vella . Surrounded by a spectacular landscape with abundant pine forest, this artificial lake is fed by the waters of the Madriu River, in the heart of the Vall del Madriu Perafita-Claror Natural Park , and has been one of the keys to optimizing the country's environment as well as a natural resource with the construction of a dam at the beginning of the 20th century.

 

Engolasters Lake offers a calm and refreshing atmosphere for those looking to escape the hustle and bustle of the city during the summer season, ideal for cycling and other outdoor recreational activities, or other times of the year when the lake remains accessible.


There are several alternatives for nature lovers who wish to visit Lake Engolasters:


1: If you prefer a hiking route, you can start the walk from the parish of Encamp (42.53829995228358, 1.5788871741549506), in front of the Automobile Museum . This is a route classified as "easy", with a positive elevation gain of 350 m, and an approximate duration of 1h30.


2: If, on the other hand, you opt for a walk without any difference in altitude, to enjoy with the family, the Camí de les Pardines will be the ideal route that will allow you to enjoy the abundant biodiversity of Andorra. It starts at the Pardines car park (42.530818041269, 1.6004554406443168), it has a route of 3.46 km and you can complete it in approximately 1.5 hours.


3: Access by road is another alternative if you decide to visit this point of interest by car. If you are coming from Escaldes-Engordany, you will have to take the detour at the roundabout (42.509982565316804, 1.5481877287395365) that connects the Obac road with the Engolasters road. The route will take us, among other places, to the church of Sant Miquel d'Engolasters. Continuing the journey, we will follow a few more bends until we reach the municipal car park of Engolasters. (42.517618435845954, 1.568245698338069). There are also other parking areas such as the Fonts car park located a few meters before our destination.


All this accessibility allows families and groups of friends to enjoy a day outdoors without complications, exploring the natural beauty of Andorra with, for example, picnic areas perfect for those who want to enjoy a free outdoor meal with several shaded corners.



Trout fishing is another of the main activities of Lake Engolasters, both for amateur and experienced fishermen. Thanks to the regulation and control of this practice that allows the repopulation of specimens through certain regulations to preserve ecosystems, fishing enthusiasts will find a very attractive setting, ideal for practicing this sport. That is why it is necessary to have the corresponding permit according to the type of fishing, which can be purchased from the Government of Andorra or authorized shops
