A month ago, Andorra opened an airport in La Seu d'Urgell, just 17 kilometres from the country. At the moment, regular commercial flights are made twice a week, on Fridays and Sundays, and they link the Principality with the capital of Spain, Madrid. So far, the average occupation has been of 70%, a figure that the Andorran executive considers positive. As for the price, the round trip costs about 130 euros, approximately.
It was in 2015 when Andorra and the Government of Catalonia signed an agreement with the objective to manage and operate the airport of La Seu d'Urgell, but it was not until December 2021 when the project materialized, after the approval of the GPS system, necessary for scheduled flights and operation in adverse weather conditions.
The Cap de Govern of Andorra, Xavier Espot, qualified the inauguration last month as a "historical moment" and Andorra Tourism has allocated 80,000 euros to a communication campaign that spread to operational flights. Although the process seems to be a long one, the road seems to be towards the introduction of other flights linking the main capitals of Europe with the Principality. It is just a matter of time.
